چکیده
Volatile elements and compounds found in extra-terrestrial environments are often the target of In Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU) studies. Although water hydroxide most commonly focus these studies as they can be used for propellant human consumption; we instead on possible exploitation sulfur how it could utilized to produce building materials Moon, Mars Asteroids. We describe physical chemical pathways extracting from native sulfide minerals, manufacturing sulfuric acid situ, using produced dissolve silicate minerals. The final products this process, which call Silicate-Sulfuric Acid Process (SSAP), include iron metal, silica, oxygen metal oxides, all crucial scope a sustainable, space-based economy. our proposed methodology requires an initial investment water, oxygen, carbon dioxide, show that volatiles recovered reused order repeat process. calculate product yield process if were enacted lunar highlands, mare, Mars, well array asteroid types.

The Single Absorption – Scrubbing Sulfuric Acid Process
The AE&C single absorption–scrubbing process has long been an alternate to double absorption for the production of sulfuric acid. In recent years regulatory pressure to reduce SO2 emissions from sulfuric acid plants to 1.0-1.25 pounds of SO2 per ton of acid produced (to about 120 PPM) or less coupled with the increased value of energy has enhanced the desirability of the single absorption–scrub...
متن کاملDissolution of Magnesium from Serpentine Mineral in Sulfuric Acid Solution
As the volume of CO2, one of greenhouse gases linked to global warming, in the atmosphere increases, there has been an increasing interest in CO2 sequestration. Aqueous carbonation, which involves the extraction of Mg from serpentine minerals and the subsequent carbonation reaction with CO2 to form the geologically stable mineral MgCO3, has been proposed as a promising CO2 sequestration technol...
متن کاملMars In Situ Resource Utilization Technology Evaluation
We have examined the technologies required to enable Mars In-Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU) because our understanding of Mars resources has changed significantly in the last five years as a result of recent robotic missions to the red planet. Two major developments, (1) confirmation of the presence of near-surface water in the form of ice in very large amounts at high latitudes by the Phoenix...
متن کاملIn-situ resource utilization technologies for Mars life support systems.
The atmosphere of Mars has many of the ingredients that can be used to support human exploration missions. It can be "mined" and processed to produce oxygen, buffer gas, and water, resulting in significant savings on mission costs. The use of local materials, called ISRU (for in-situ resource utilization), is clearly an essential strategy for a long-term human presence on Mars from the standpoi...
متن کاملUsing Silicate Mineral Particles for pH Control during in situ Bioremediation of Chlorinated Ethene Source Zones
Accurate control of groundwater pH is of critical importance for in situ biological treatment of chlorinated solvents. This study evaluated a novel approach for buffering subsurface pH that relies on the use of silicate minerals as a long-term source of alkalinity. A screening methodology based on thermodynamic considerations and numerical simulations was developed to rank silicate minerals acc...
